Lindy Kinoshameg (Odawa, pike clan) was raised in Manitoulin Island, Ontario and is a proud member of Wikwemikong Unceded First Nation. Lindy started drawing at an early age, drawing everything that he found interesting. His family noticed his growing talent and enrolled him into various art programs and schools during his early upbringing.
Lindy moved to Toronto at the age of 19 and has continued to expand his love for the arts by immersing himself into the Indigenous arts community, facilitating workshops and performing throughout the city. Lindy is now a 4th year University of Toronto student pursuing a Physical Health and Education degree in the Kinesiology Faculty, with the hopes of opening a community arts and recreation organization in his hometown, with a primary focus on youth.
Lindy continues to be involved in the arts through: stage management, acrylic painting, shadow puppetry, silk screening, prop and set design, traditional dance, beadwork and facilitation with a strong focus on sketching and portrait work.
Lindy has always had a keen visual eye and has been actively exhibiting his work across Ontario, with various commissions that include work for: The University of Toronto, Seneca College, First Nations House Magazine and multiple individual sales, nationally and internationally.
In 2014, Lindy was chosen as the CBC Media Correspondent and Intern for the imagineNATIVE Media Arts + Film Festival in Toronto, a huge honour, which had his work published on CBC Aboriginal and various social media platforms.
Lindy is currently working on a series of three life-size drawings that explore the idea of shape shifting, an Indigenous ideology where a being transforms from human to animal and vise versa. The series illustrates Lindys personal transformation from his home community, away from family, to the big city where he finds his dependence, strength, and courage. A series that encompasses the mind, body and spirit and the transition to the man he has become today. Lindy currently lives and works in Toronto.
